One of the several reasons to Japans reluctant to intervene in FX markets is worsening US-JP yield spread as well as the fact that both the Bank of Japan and Japanese govt have raised their growth forecasts at the same time that the Fed has downgraded US GDP forecasts. US-JPN 10 yr yields spread falls to 1.86%, the lowest since May 2009.

issued a short GBPUSD call at 930 BST after the Bad UK trade figures and soft PPI and cable did just that. lost 100 pips. textbook datafundamentals running the market.

1.5070 hard to break for now

I hope you followed my insights on twitter ahead of the CAN jobs report calling for 1.0370 in event of strong report. the way to play this now is to continue selling USDCAD in event of any positive data (such as decent earnings). looks like 1.0260 is a very strong possibility

i agree with all the points made on here. Argentina won ONLY 1-0 but if it werent for Nigeria's goalkeeper, Messy would have scored a hatrick. The SthAFrican and Nigerian goalies were brillian and must give special courses to Algeria and England Goalies. I was bitter and disgusted at the Algeria-Slovernia games. Why on earth didnt Saadane remove Yebda/

Italy looked sloppy but very much needed the imagination of Pirlo. Italy, always the luckiest team in the world, were thankful for the Paraguayan keeper's inexplicable miss.

Cameroon lost but were unlucky with those runs from Etoo and the crossbar from 27 yards. I wish them luck against Denmark. Holland remains my favourite to take it all.

Germany looked most impressive so far but no ue of making superlatives at this early stage.

Both S.Korea and Japan won which makes Asia's performance the best so far as continents are concerned.

Moodys waited for the Greece game against Argentina before downgrading to junk. They mighty as well as downgrade teh otehr keeper's to junk.

For those who like to watch lots of goals, brazil-North Korea could should produce at least 5 or 6 goals..unless all 10 Nkorean players retreat to their own penalty box and stay there all the time.

More to come later in the Cup.
